Event Horizon
The point of no return. Past it, the escape velocity exceeds the speed of light. We can never see what lies within.
Accretion Disk
Gas and dust spiralling inward, heated by friction to millions of degrees, blazing in X-rays before vanishing forever.
Photon Ring
The bright ring of light orbiting the event horizon — photons trapped in a circle, the silhouette of pure gravity.
Relativistic Jets
Twin beams of plasma launched from the poles at nearly the speed of light, stretching for thousands of light-years.
